Coming Soon: A Base Village at Snowmass
The
dream of a pedestrian base village that brings the beautiful mountain
landscape into the heart of Snowmass Village and offers premier
guest lodging, restaurants, shops and year-round activities at
the foot of the mountain is about to become a reality. Making
it all possible is a remarkable joint venture between Aspen Skiing
Company and Intrawest Corporation, the leading developer of village-centered
resorts across North America.
As
the managing partner responsible for researching, designing, building
and marketing base village, Intrawest is in the process of working
with the community to break ground on this multi-phase project
in 2002. With plans to integrate residential and commercial spaces,
trails and on-mountain access with public plazas, meeting spaces,
entertainment venues, amazing views and environmental elements,
base village will live up to the mountain's long-held reputation
of having something for everyone. And soon everyone will have
a new reason to play and stay in Snowmass.
Built
on the backdrop of the majestic valley, base village designers
are envisioning a village that spills down from the mountain -
lush foliage, a stream that runs through the center of the village
and views that will take your breath away. The architecture will
reflect the area's rich historical and cultural roots as a ranching
community, expressed through smaller scale buildings that appear
as though built over time with the natural patina of age and experience.
A diverse mix of ski-in/ski-out mountain homes, from
condominiums to townhomes, will help produce the critical mass
to make the village a vibrant, exciting destination, along with
a commercial master plan that includes retail spaces, food and
beverage facilities, skier services, a new children's center for
Snowmass' renowned ski school program and a central transit and
check-in center. Animated with all-season attractions, events
and festivals - the synergies that bring the bricks and mortar
to life - the base village "resort clock" will operate 365 days
a year, 24 hour a day to capture the special character and memorable
spirit of Snowmass.
